Go-karting centre proposed for Walton-on-Thames shopping centre car park

Go Karting for Fun Limited is seeking planning permission to convert part of levels two and three of The Heart Shopping Centre car park in Walton-on-Thames into an indoor electric go-karting centre with ancillary leisure uses.

The application, submitted on behalf of the Farnham-based company by agents Savills, covers approximately 8,054 square metres of existing car park space at the KT12 1AD site. The 4,979 square metres of floor space would change use entirely, though the net internal floorspace figure would remain the same as no new floor area is being created.

The proposal would reduce the number of car parking spaces at the site from 737 to 529, a loss of 208 spaces. The applicant states the existing drainage infrastructure would be retained and utilised by the new use.

Proposed operating hours are 08:00 to 23:00 Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays. The development, classified as sui generis, is expected to create the equivalent of 30 full-time jobs. The site currently has no employees.

The application does not involve external materials, new highway access, or any residential element. The applicant has cited the de minimis biodiversity net gain exemption on the basis that the proposal constitutes a change of use of an existing building rather than new construction.

The application was signed by agent Olivia Frost of Savills on 30 June 2026. Ownership notices were served on multiple parties on 25 June 2026, including one addressed to Elmbridge Borough Council's Civic Centre in Esher.
